SUMMARY
The Router Supervisor plays a key role within the Operations Department, overseeing dispatch and routing activities to support team members and managers in maximizing efficiency across routes, equipment, and evening operations. This role is responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of night operations by supervising routing and dispatch while coordinating delivery loads for optimal stop efficiency.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise all night shift routing, dispatch, and traffic (paperflow) operations
Plan and optimize routes, loads, and delivery sequences for maximum efficiency and on-time performance
Ensure compliance with hours-of-service regulations and equipment weight restrictions
Assign drivers and equipment, coordinating start times, seniority, and run requirements
Maintain accurate and timely system updates for loads, dispatch, and driver movements
Organize and process invoices/bills, including sorting, EDI retrieval, and manifest creation
Coordinate with dock leadership to prioritize loading sequences and ensure efficient flow of freight
Communicate with linehaul and regional dispatch to manage inbound and outbound freight priorities
Proactively communicate delays, service issues, and updates with customers and internal teams
Respond to and assist with incoming calls from drivers and customers, providing timely support and issue resolution
Work closely with mechanics to ensure equipment availability and address mechanical issues promptly
Monitor staff performance, provide feedback, and support performance review processes
Assist with workforce planning, including scheduling, time-off management, and hiring support
Ensure building security and respond to operational issues during the night shift
Support KPI tracking, continuous improvement initiatives, and implementation of operational systems
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of High School Diploma.
Minimum of 5 years experience in the Transport Industry.
Experience with Dispatch/Routing in the industry preferable.
Strong geographical knowledge of Ottawa and surrounding areas.
Excellent people skills while dealing with customers and drivers on a regular basis.
Ensure smooth flow of communication, directions, and paper flow.
Proven ability to effectively organize and lead a team.
Good keyboard skills, accuracy, knowledge of shipping documents, organizational skills.
Computer literate (AS400, Microsoft Office, Truck Mate, Shaw HOS).
Resourceful and capable of multi-tasking.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Salaried position based on 45 hours per week.
